Diana made a visit to the proposed European Arctic Information Centre in Finland recently. The Centre is proposed to be based at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi.
She met the Director of the Arctic Centre, Paula Kankaanpää, Head of Science Communications, Markku Heikkilä, as well as several members of the academic staff. She was also taken on a tour of the Arctic Centre's Science Exhibition by the Chief Executive Producer, Nicolas Gunslay.
Diana said:
"I think Finland has an independent voice in Arctic matters. It is an Arctic nation but not a coastal state and is of course an EU member. In some ways Finland can be seen as an 'honest broker' in these matters. I would support the siting of the proposed European Arctic Information Centre at the University of Lapland."
Diana later gave the ARKTIS Graduate school lecture with a title 'Finland's role in the EU's Arctic Strategy'.
