On Saturday 3rd October Yorkshire and Humber's Liberal Democrat MEP Diana Wallis spoke at a protest outside the Menwith Hill RAF base near Harrogate.
Speaking to the camaigners calling for more transparency about what goes on at the American listening base, Diana Wallis said that in a "new world" of international relations "probing questions" needed to be asked.
Diana added: "We have this little piece of Yorkshire that is totally out of our control and indeed our national government and parliament's control. I this we need to make a statement every so often and ask some probing questions."
She added that the US president's regime had brought change to the global picture.
"We seem to be in a new world of international relations. Perhaps we could ask exactly what does happen here at Menwith Hill. Are we in the front line or what are we exactly?"
The demonstration was organised by Campaign for the Accountability of American Bases (CAAB) and the Yorkshire Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. The Menwith Hill base is situated near the A59 about nine miles from Harrogate.
