Diana Wallis MEP has been successfully re-elected to the European Parliament to represent Yorkshire & the Humber for the Liberal Democrats.
Speaking after the count in Leeds last night she said:
"Whilst I would thank our team Liberal Democrat for the result we have delivered, I take two things from this result.
"Firstly, that the electorate is angry, fuelled by the expenses saga at Westminster. This means from now on, quite rightly, everyone in public life will be under extreme scrutiny and the highest possible levels of transparency and openness will be required. All those elected tonight should take note of this.
"Secondly, I have now been an MEP in this region for 10 years and people know that a Liberal Democrat meant a vote that is pro-European, pro-democracy and pro-reform. That is the agenda I take back to Brussels for the next 5 years."
She added: "a Liberal Democrat vote was also a vote for an open region of Yorkshire and the Humber in Europe; a region that is open, tolerant and diverse!"
