Commenting today ahead of the EU Council vote which is expected to lift the ban on bent cucumbers and bananas, local Liberal Democrat Euro MP, Diana Wallis said:
"It might help those of a Eurosceptic tendency to learn to love the EU just a little bit more!"
The strict EU standards on fruit and vegetables were introduced fourteen years ago at the request of EU member states to try to ensure quality and consistency. However, it led to stories about barmy Brussels bureaucrats and bent cucumbers and bananas.
Liberal Democrat MEP Diana Wallis, who is also a Vice President of the European Parliament, went on:
"I am pleased to see that the EU can move from these issues which seem to hinder its work onto the real concerns of people relating to the economy and the environment."
